To-no-ko (Grinding Powder)
Contents: Approx. 20g
Used as a material for lacquerware and kintsugi. When mixed with water and then with lacquer, it forms a putty that is used in kintsugi to fill chipped areas.
Also used as a pore filler for wood finishing. This is a finely ground powder that dissolves easily in water and penetrates wood grain. We have repackaged red to-no-ko from Yamashina, Kyoto.
The natural color of the raw material is used without any added coloring. This product uses a type called kiriko, which is made by re-powdering finished to-no-ko.
The raw material for to-no-ko is extremely weathered rock formed from slate and shale. The raw material turns yellowish-brown due to weathering. By utilizing the change in color depending on the rate of weathering, red, white, and yellow to-no-ko are produced.
