Butterfly Stool Sori Yanagi Chair Stool Furniture Seat Butterfly NT

Butterfly Stool
The Butterfly Stool, with its beautiful form achieved through plywood bending techniques, features gentle curves reminiscent of a butterfly spreading its wings. This is the result of a masterful fusion of ancient Japanese aesthetics and Western materials. Its symmetry allows for seamless and elegant joint detailing. Sori Yanagi was an industrial designer who was instrumental in supporting modern Japanese design from the post-war reconstruction period of the 1950s-60s through the era of high economic growth. Yanagi's designs embody his philosophy of beauty in utility, characterized by a heartwarming appeal within simple, pure forms. A leading figure in the Japanese design world, he consistently advocated that beauty is for the people. He also served as an assistant to Charlotte Perriand, a partner of Le Corbusier, during her visit to Japan. His renowned Butterfly Stool is permanently preserved in numerous museums. Beyond furniture, he designed a wide range of items, including torch holders for the Olympic torch relay and stadium seating for the Tokyo Olympics, as well as automobiles, expressways, and bridges.
