These shells have not undergone any disinfection with chlorine or other agents for gardening and exterior use.
They have also not been boiled, as this would cause the color to fade.

After the walnut kernels have been removed, the shells have been carefully sifted by machine, so there are no large pieces of dirt. However, there may be some fine powder or remaining kernel fragments. For this reason, the condition category is listed as Slightly scratched or dirty.
If this is a concern, please wash them with water before use.
For use as craft material or indoors, it is recommended to rinse them with hot water for peace of mind.

As a guideline for covering an area, a thin layer of 5 kg per square meter is recommended.
The garden image shows my own garden where I am using them as mulch for olive trees and Lady Banks' roses. I think they look very atmospheric and lovely when wet from the rain.
When spread without gaps, approximately 10 kg is used per square meter.
