1 stone mill

This is a stone mill. It consists of two stone discs, an upper and a lower one. By rotating the upper disc, it grinds the ingredients placed between them into powder. It is said to have been introduced to Japan about 1400 years ago and became widespread in general households during the mid-Edo period. It was used in many homes until around 1945, but now its original purpose has ended, and it is sometimes used as a stand for bonsai, a stone for pickling, or a paving stone.
