Description
The Kaya tree (Torreya nucifera) is an evergreen coniferous tree belonging to the Taxaceae family. It is characterized by its extremely slow growth and long lifespan. Rich in oil and featuring a beautiful grain, it is particularly famous as the material for the highest quality Go and Shogi boards. Due to its water resistance and durability, it was once used for building materials, bathtubs, and ships. Today, it is considered a rare phantom wood.
