The ANA Group began in 1952 with two small helicopters from Nippon Helicopter Transport (commonly known as Nipperi).
The airline code NH currently used by ANA also originates from Nipperi.
The company adopted a design based on sketches left by Leonardo da Vinci, considered the prototype of a helicopter, as its emblem, marking the beginning of its challenge to forge a path from scratch as Japan's first private airline.
