It was displayed in the kitchen without being used...
There are scuff marks on one side of the top lid from rubbing against the wall, but otherwise it is in beautiful condition.
As shown in the images, the wood grain pattern and color are clearly visible. The scent of the wood has faded due to storage.
Although it is unused as it was displayed, the condition is listed as Near Unused.

This is a bonito shaving tool from Aritsugu, a long-established knife shop in Kyoto's Nishiki Market that has been in business for 450 years.
It is no longer listed on their website and appears to be discontinued, but its original price was around 16,000 yen.
