☆Characteristics of Tawara Yodel☆

Tawara Yodel is a Japanese native potato variety registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2000 (Heisei 12).

This variety was developed by Mr. Masahiko Tawara, a private farmer in Nagasaki Prefecture, who discovered a mutant strain of Andes Red on his farm and selected superior traits from it.

The name Yodel was chosen during the application process because its unique shape resembles a Swiss horn. You-del also sounds like you come out (meaning high yield) from the soil. Although it was initially published as Alpentop, the variety is on the verge of extinction due to a lack of successors.
