This is Gagabut, an aquatic plant from the Menyanthaceae family. It grew alongside medaka (Japanese killifish) and goldfish in my garden. In autumn, the leaves decay and the plant sinks to the bottom as turions, but it overwintered in buckets, tanks, or ponds where the water doesn't freeze.
Now, it's finally starting to extend its roots into the soil and grow its stems. The leaves will then enlarge and spread across the water surface.
It loves sunlight, preferring full sun from morning to evening, but I expose it to sunlight for 2-3 hours daily. The water temperature is kept below 35°C, a level suitable for medaka and goldfish.
From July to September, small white flowers with yellow centers bloom. They are ephemeral flowers, opening in the morning and wilting around 3 PM.
