Set E

Purchased from an antique shop in the UK.
This is an antique dessert cutlery set with mother-of-pearl handles.

Mother-of-pearl handles.
The ferrules and blades are silver-plated.
EPNS hallmark present.

The mother-of-pearl parts are in good condition with a pearlescent sheen.
As the mother-of-pearl is a natural material, some pieces may have black spots or hairline-like linear patterns. We kindly ask for your understanding that these are natural characteristics of the material.

The tips of the forks and knives have some light scratches and very minor plating wear.
The manufacturer is unknown as there is no maker's mark.

The knives are of a parallel shape, a rounded tip type that can also be used as butter knives or tea knives.
It is said to be proper etiquette to use rounded-tip cutlery as cake knives when serving afternoon tea.

The luxurious relief on the blade tips is truly beautiful.
This is a gorgeous cutlery set that sparkles and shines depending on the angle of the light.

Size:
Knife: 19.8 cm
Fork: 16.8 cm

This set includes one of each, for a total of 2 pieces.

Rare mother-of-pearl, abbreviated as MOP (Mother of Pearl), has shells that were used as materials for buttons and crafts. Before plastics were commercialized, around 1870-1890, mother-of-pearl was used as a handle material for cutlery. However, due to its natural properties, it deteriorates over time, making items in good condition rare and valuable.

There is no significant damage beyond normal signs of use, but these are antique items that have passed through many years since their manufacture.
As these are items that have weathered the passage of time, please only purchase if you can accept the natural wear and tear associated with antiques.

We also have many other full cutlery sets, as well as sterling silver cutlery from brands like Christofle and Puiforcat, listed. Please take a look.
