A traditional Japanese Ikkanbari dustpan made by layering washi paper over a bamboo frame.

This Ikkanbari dustpan is handled by Magokoro Kobo, which makes items such as shuro (Chinese hemp palm) brooms and scrub brushes in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. In the past, this region had many farmers, and they made brooms using shuro as a side job during the farming off-season.

With the spread of vacuum cleaners, the demand for brooms decreased, and while there were once over a dozen workshops in Ukiha, now only Magokoro Kobo remains. Ikkanbari is a traditional Japanese paper-lacquer craft made by layering washi paper over a bamboo frame. Finishing with persimmon tannin adds durability. Compared to plastic dustpans, it generates less static electricity, so dust does not stick and it is easy to clean.
