Description
Cracks present. Deadstock. Made in Japan. 9-bundle Shuro (Trachycarpus fortunei palm) broom. New, unused deadstock. Showa retro antique. Maru-boshi-jirushi Broom Industry Co., Ltd. 1 piece.

This domestically produced Shuro broom, which can be used for a lifetime with proper care, is handmade by Japanese craftsmen.

This is a Shuro leather tatami broom made in the Showa era by Maru-boshi-jirushi Broom Industry Co., a broom manufacturing company whose existence can no longer be confirmed. We have 2 in stock, but this one has age-related cracks on the bamboo handle, so we are offering it at approximately 20% off.

*Cracked image added. Please repair with adhesive, thread wrapping, etc. Since it is at the base, it should be easy to work with from a design perspective.

The strength appears to be the same as before the crack, and there may be no issues with use, but please try to take some measures to ensure its longevity.

This listing is for one broom. If you need multiple, please inquire separately.

It is estimated that 35 years have passed since its manufacture and sale. While there were no clear signs of deterioration within the scope of our inspection, the white pipe tape has dirt, and the packaging vinyl shows age-related deterioration, with tears and detachment.

This is a 9-bundle broom, close to the maximum size for household brooms, and its shape is formed with copper wire. Although it is a 9-bundle broom, they are not all the same size; the three bundles in the center and at both ends are thicker, while the remaining six bundles are thinner. The tip is frayed, but the shape of the Shuro palm is preserved as you move up towards the handle. I haven't used it, so I don't know the details, but I've heard it can be used for many years with proper care.

The bamboo for the handle is not ordinary Moso bamboo, but rather bamboo with a mottled pattern like persimmon dye, which is used for tea ceremony utensils, shakuhachi flutes, and high-grade bamboo poles.

Although it is just a broom, the shipping size will be around 160 size, so the shipping cost will be high even for one item.

Width approx. 24 cm

[Usage]
Tatami, flooring, tile/concrete floors

Shuro palm, persimmon-dyed bamboo, copper wire

[Description]
A Shuro palm hand broom made by a craftsman. Compared to the Onige (bristled) type, Shuro leather brooms have finer fibers, a very soft sweeping feel, and sweep away dirt as if stroking the tatami or floor.

New Shuro bristles may fall out easily.
They will stabilize after some shedding.
*Due to natural materials and handmade products, there may be slight differences in size and appearance.
