Expertly crafted, made with quarter-sawn wood to eliminate worries of gaps in the tiered boxes, Japanese honeybee 5-tier box hive.
Thank you for your interest in our product. This item is carefully and meticulously crafted by a former carpenter with over half a century of experience.
We aim for a smooth and pleasant transaction for both parties. Please read the following carefully and make your purchase with understanding.
This is a hive box for Japanese honeybees.
The images shown are from a previous product. The manufacturing method is the same, so please use them as a reference.
[External Dimensions] 400mm x 400mm x 790mm
Entrance height: 6mm, Entrance width: 120mm
[Hive Box Dimensions] 300mm x 300mm x 130mm
Wood thickness: 26mm
The side panels of the hive boxes are made from quarter-sawn or rift-sawn lumber with few knots. (Many other products use plain-sawn lumber). While rare and slightly more expensive, this lumber is less prone to warping and has excellent moisture-regulating properties, creating a comfortable environment for the bees and ensuring longevity.
- The wood is not burned. This is because dark colors absorb sunlight in the summer, leading to excessive internal temperatures.
- All joints are carefully planed to minimize gaps and ensure a snug fit.
- The anti-shift pins attached to each hive box can be removed with pliers if not needed.
- The front of the entrance section is detachable with screws on both sides for easy cleaning.
- The bottom hive box, which serves as the entrance, is made slightly smaller to prevent rainwater from entering. The bottom board is approximately 45mm thick, providing excellent stability and resistance to warping even after many years of use. Products using bottom boards of this thickness are rare.
- A board with a viewing hole is included between the top panel and the uppermost hive box.
- All components are thoroughly air-dried in the shade for several months.
- As a bonus, we will include a small amount (a few grams in a ziplock bag) of honey extraction residue.
- The main material used is domestic Japanese cedar (Sugi).
This is a handmade item, not an artistic object. Therefore, there may be slight variations in dimensions, minor cosmetic imperfections, marking lines, or small cracks. We kindly ask that individuals who are overly sensitive or concerned about minor details refrain from purchasing. As it is made by a former carpenter, the construction itself is quite sturdy. However, please understand that my experience as a beekeeper is that of an amateur hobbyist.
We are not considering price reductions. Also, due to size limitations and the inability to combine shipments, bulk purchases are not possible. We apologize for this inconvenience. If you wish to purchase multiple units, please contact us.
