↓About Tosa Ryu

The Right Material for the Right Place

Traditionally, wood has been utilized according to its inherent properties, such as cherry wood for floors and cedar for exterior walls. Cypress is rich in oils, making it suitable for products used around water, while cherry wood, with its fine grain, can be used for washboards to wash clothes without damage. Chestnut wood is heat-resistant, and camphor wood is suitable for products that leverage its repellent effect against pests that damage clothing. Tosa Ryu creates products that take advantage of these wood properties.

Natural Drying

It has recently become known that artificially drying wood using desiccants and other methods not only diminishes the tree's natural functions but also poses risks to human health from harmful substances like insecticides.

Tosa Ryu allows wood to dry naturally for 3 to 6 months. This process ensures that the tree's natural functions are preserved, resulting in safe products that retain the wood's original properties.

Our Commitment

We have consistently produced products using thinned wood and scraps from Shimanto cypress. By thinning forests, we contribute to their health, purify rivers, and enhance the forest's ability to absorb CO2. Simultaneously, by utilizing the resulting thinned wood to create and market wooden products, we engage in green activities known as carbon offsetting.

Furthermore, by using local Shimanto cypress, we minimize the extra energy required for long-distance transportation. We strive to reduce waste as much as possible by reusing scraps, leaves, collected wood, and driftwood, thereby suppressing new CO2 consumption.

Tosa Ryu transforms its responsibility in handling wood into products and activities, dedicating itself to developing products that are useful, bright, and comfortable for everyday life.
