Amakusa whetstones of the Jo-haku (high white) grade are becoming difficult to mine.
This is a Type 10 whetstone that is not pure white but close to white.
It is a rare and valuable whetstone that is seldom mined nowadays.

It falls into the medium grit category.
We believe it is suitable for sharpening kitchen knives, carpentry tools, and agricultural tools.
You can use any surface for sharpening.
Stainless steel is also fine, of course.
As this is a natural product, the corners may chip when cut to shape the whetstone. There are hard spots, soft spots, and areas with air bubbles. Areas with air bubbles are preferred as they hold the slurry. There may be minor chips, and rarely, cracks. We cannot offer any compensation for these issues. Please purchase only if you understand the nature of natural products.

Amakusa whetstones are produced from the island of Kamiamakusa City, Oyanano Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, a place associated with Amakusa Shiro's war funds. They have long been favored for sharpening kitchen knives, carpentry tools, and farming tools.

※Grit size varies individually as this is a natural whetstone.
◎Tora-to (Tiger Stone - Red): Reference grit 500-800
◎Chu-jiro (Medium White): Between red and white
◎Jo-haku (High White - White): Reference grit 1000

※Currently, there is no mining of Jo-haku.
