This is an Ozaki Mizuasagi, mined from the Umegahata area, a region known for famous finishing stones like Nakayama, Okudono, and Otsuki.
It is now a closed mine and a rare stone.

We acquired it in its raw form and painstakingly lapped it ourselves.

The finish on blades is bright, and the slurry is extremely fine-grained.
Stones like Nakayama Mizuasagi are generally considered among the hardest of Kyoto's natural whetstones, but this particular Ozaki stone is not excessively hard. We believe it can be used without issue even by those who find hard stones difficult to work with.
It is recommended for the final finishing of razors, woodworking tools, and even kitchen knives.

While it will produce slurry when used as is, we recommend using nagura or diamond stones to create slurry before sharpening.

During the lapping process, small pores (cavities) can appear, and small depressions are visible on the current lapping surface.
These will disappear with repeated sharpening and flattening. Unlike hard pores that affect the stone's integrity, these are simple cavities and do not interfere with sharpening.
