This is a Japanese-made jar that is becoming scarce due to the closure of Hisamatsu, a top manufacturer of ceramic kame. It also has excellent acid and water resistance.

Hisamatsu Kiln (Hisamatsu Gama) produced ceramic kame of Tokoname ware in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, known for its high durability and acid resistance.
Made from materials that can safely preserve food without additives, these safe and secure Japanese-made products, free from the leaching of harmful chemical substances, have earned high praise as fermentation and preservation containers for miso, pickles, and umeboshi.
