Description
【Unused, Stored Item】
A pin brooch depicting a flying bird, from Rey Urban (レイ ウルバン), a prestigious workshop in Stockholm, Sweden, renowned for its handmade silver and gold products. Suitable for both men and women.
Size: 7 x 4 cm, thickness 1-3.2 mm (varies by part), weight approx. 17.3g.
Crafted in the 1970s at the Aage Fausing workshop in Copenhagen.

While Georg Jensen of Denmark is also famous for its silver and gold products, their accessories are mass-produced using molds and then hand-finished.
In contrast, Rey Urban crafts each piece by forging and shaping solid blocks of silver and gold. Similar to Japanese sword making, they repeatedly heat and hammer the soft precious metal to achieve a hardness and elasticity that surpasses even steel. The surface is then finished with files, hammers, and planes, making every item an ultra-luxury product.
This is a rare piece from a prestigious, yet little-known, workshop.

The Asuka (飛鳥 - flying bird) brooch being offered features a hammered finish, showcasing a bold yet delicate craftsmanship characteristic of Nordic design.
It is a precious piece of sculptural art that captures the dynamism of a flying bird through its hammered finish.

The precious metal is hardened and reinforced, so it will not deform even with slight force and can be used for generations as if new.

This was one of the items I purchased during a business trip to Sweden, visiting the workshop, and kept unused.
*This is the only one of its kind in Japan.*

At the time this item was made, the price of pure silver was approximately ¥13/g, but it has now soared to about ¥500/g, a roughly 40-fold increase.
This is due to increased demand for silver in high-tech industrial products like solar panels, its use as an investment vehicle amidst political instability, and its excellent thermal conductivity. In Japan, the value of silver as a precious metal has historically been underestimated.
Compared to gold, which has increased about 15-fold, silver's price surge of over 40 times is significantly higher.
By 2040-2050, the world's estimated 500,000 tons of silver reserves will be depleted, entering an era of recycling.
The prices of silver products will continue to rise in the future.
