Cat's Kiss (Cloisonné Brooch)

This is a cloisonné enamel brooch created by Shippo-yaki artist Sanpo. Sanpo crafts each piece by hand.

This brooch is inspired by a white cat and a calico cat affectionately nuzzling each other.

Cloisonné enamel is a craft where powdered glass, called glaze, is applied to metal (Sanpo primarily uses copper plates) and fired at high temperatures (Sanpo uses 750-850°C). As a ceramic art, the colors in cloisonné enamel can subtly change depending on the amount of glaze and the firing process, making it a delicate art form. The placement of the metal wires and the subtle differences in color application result in unique variations for each piece, ultimately creating one-of-a-kind handcrafted accessories.

?Sharp points may form on the back and sides of the cloisonné enamel during firing. For safety, these points are filed down. Please understand that these filed areas are a characteristic of cloisonné enamel and a result of being a handmade item. The sides have been polished.
