Handwoven Ikat from the Island of Flores, Indonesia - Partially hand-spun yarn, fine weave
This is a traditional ikat (ikat weaving) from Alor Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
I purchased it locally in 2002.
This ikat uses hand-spun yarn for the weft and is hand-woven.
It features the traditional colors of Alor Island.
Regarding the colors, the dark parts are dyed with yarn using natural dyes. The black color is extracted from indigo.
The other colors are likely synthetic dyes.
Size: 13 x 136 cm (+ 3 cm fringe).
It is unused, but due to long-term storage, it was hand-washed once before being listed.
The motif is a geometric pattern commonly found in Alor.
