(How do you differentiate between Kokorozashi and Kimyōshi, Shichishichi-ki shi, Shichishichi-nichi shi, and Man-chūin-shi?)
All of these are titles written for Buddhist memorial services. Kimyōshi, Shichishichi-ki shi, Shichishichi-nichi shi (Kanto region) and Man-chūin-shi (Kinki region) are only used when sending gifts after the 49-day memorial service. Kokorozashi is the most common and generally accepted title, suitable for use before or after the 49-day memorial service. Kokorozashi expresses gratitude. Man-chūin-shi includes a report of the completion of the 49-day memorial service and is commonly used in the Kinki region and westward. Chūin in Buddhism refers to the period between this world and the next. The expression Man-chūin signifies that the deceased has successfully attained Buddhahood and ascended to heaven after 49 days.
