#Yamasan's Soil

Nikko Sand refers to the hardest type of pumice from the Kanuma soil produced around Kanuma City, specifically sourced from the Nikko City area of Tochigi Prefecture. It is said to be harder than even the high-grade hard Kanuma soil, truly representing the finest quality of Kanuma soil.

While Kanuma soil is readily available at home centers nationwide, Nikko Sand is rarely found at home centers even within Tochigi Prefecture. It is expensive (approximately twice the price of hard Kanuma soil, and more than three times the price of general Kanuma soil) and difficult to obtain.

It is sterile, offers excellent drainage and aeration, retains moisture, and is extremely hard, making it resistant to crumbling. It is primarily used in soil mixes for high-grade bonsai, orchids, and wild plants.

Larger granules are used as drainage material at the bottom of pots.

Its excellent drainage and aeration, combined with its extreme hardness, make it suitable for soil mixes for succulents such as Haworthia, Agave, and cacti.
