Description
Thank you for viewing.
This is an AEON New Year commemorative item, a plate featuring the Year of the Monkey.
A monkey is depicted on an auspicious hexagonal base.
In Japan, the hexagon is considered an auspicious motif symbolizing longevity, financial fortune, stability, and harmony. It is found in many natural forms such as turtle shells, honeycombs, and snowflakes, and due to its stable structure, it is also considered a symbol of good luck and development.
The character for monkey (申) sounds like the word for to leave (去る), implying that illnesses and misfortunes will leave. Furthermore, by incorporating the color red, which is often associated with warding off evil, many traditions state that it helps illnesses leave (heal), prevents long-term sickness, and avoids illness and misfortune.
