This is a set of table linens with beautiful, extremely delicate and precise embroidery.
The most striking feature is the incredibly thin base fabric – thinner than any I've seen before!
I've heard that thinner fabric makes embroidery more difficult, and while I believe it's handmade Chinese embroidery lace, I don't have specific details.
The technique appears to be similar to drawn thread work or Hardanger embroidery, which utilizes the gaps created by removing threads to form openwork patterns.
I purchased this set during a trip to China about 30 years ago, and I believe it's unused. However, some coasters may be missing due to long-term home storage.
There are no noticeable stains or dirt, but there is some sun fading due to age.
