Makomo (マコモ) Shimenawa with Pine, Nandina, Boxwood, and Abundant Rice Ears

Makomo, which has a strong connection with the gods since ancient times and is also called grass where gods dwell, is believed to have the power to purify spaces.
It is said that the sacred ropes at Izumo Taisha Shrine are made from this Makomo, not rice straw.

It is also known for its high detoxifying effects, and various products such as tea and powder made from Makomo are sold.

This sacred rope was made from Makomo, which was carefully hand-harvested and sun-dried after being grown in our own rice paddy, basking in plenty of sunlight alongside rice.

We have added abundant rice ears, and bundled them with Nandina, which signifies turning misfortune into good luck, pine needles symbolizing longevity, boxwood, and Japanese sumac.
All materials are either grown by ourselves or harvested.

For those who wish to welcome the New Year with a quiet and dignified sacred rope, with wishes for a good year ahead.
