This is a Gold Maki-e Red Painting Peony and Peacock Pattern vase from Kutani Ware, a traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture.
The design features a traditional motif of peonies and peacocks, symbols of wealth and nobility, meticulously depicted in vibrant red and luxurious gold on a white background.
It is based on the gorgeous style known as Iidayama (Red Painting) style, which features fine red brushstrokes with gold accents.
The motifs depicted are:
Peacock: Said to eat venomous snakes, it symbolizes warding off disaster, or due to its beautiful appearance, it symbolizes wealth and prosperity.
Peony: Known as the King of Flowers, it signifies wealth, nobility, and happiness.
