Takeda Mazda Thermometer 1C Mercury Thermometer

This is a glass thermometer (mercury thermometer) and its plastic protective case.

Features
• Scale: Numbers from 35 to 42 are written, representing degrees Celsius (°C). The 37 mark, which is the standard for a healthy person's normal body temperature, is printed in red for easy visibility.
• How it works: When the metal tip (temperature-sensing part) is warmed, the liquid inside (mercury, or a substitute metal which is more common in recent years) expands with heat and rises in the glass tube. Body temperature is measured by reading the scale at the point where it stops.
Digital electronic thermometers are more common nowadays, but this thermometer has the advantage of not requiring batteries and being less prone to breakage.
