Hagoita (Japanese paddle) - Showa Retro - Celebration - Sekku (Seasonal Festival) - Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day) - New Year - Amulet - Japanese Culture
This is a traditional Japanese battledore from the Showa era.
It was customary in the Showa period to use these as celebratory decorations for events such as Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day), New Year's, a girl's birthday, or the Okuizome (first meal ceremony). They are said to ward off evil spirits.
It is said that this battledore was actually used for playing shuttlecock during New Year's.
Also great as retro interior decor!
