New, unopened. Storm glass with a transparent house object inside.

Depending on the day's weather, the mountain hut may appear clear or shrouded in morning mist. This storm glass is sure to make your mornings more enjoyable as you peek at it.

A storm glass is a weather forecasting tool that was used by sailors in 19th-century Europe to predict the weather. Storm glasses, which change their appearance in various ways depending on the weather, are popular as stylish interior objects. The glass contains a liquid solution of chemicals such as camphor, potassium nitrate, and ethanol, but the exact relationship between crystallization and weather is still not fully understood today. Although not scientifically explained, the state of the liquid inside the glass changes daily depending on the temperature and humidity. It is possible to forecast the weather: when crystals settle at the bottom and the liquid is clear, it indicates clear weather; when small crystals float, it indicates rain; when the entire glass turns white, it indicates snow; and when the crystals are coarse and not transparent, it indicates storm.
(*The appearance of the crystals is a guideline only. In reality, there are individual differences due to the installation location and specific conditions.)
