A storm glass is a weather forecasting device used by sailors and others in the 19th century. It is made by sealing camphor (camphor extract) and ethanol in a glass tube, and was used to observe the crystals that formed in response to changes in climate. It is also installed in the Nautilus in Jules Verne's novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. As science has advanced, it has become clear that the crystallization phenomenon is largely a mystery, and the details are still under research. While it is difficult to use as a practical predictor today, please enjoy the ever-changing crystals of the TempoDrop series as the scenery changes with the seasons.
