This is an iron wind chime from Iwachu, a long-established Nambu Tekki maker, inheriting the ironware culture of Morioka, Iwate, which boasts over 400 years of history. The company was founded in 1902 and has been loved as a leading Nambu Tekki brand ever since.
The lantern-shaped body features a cutout of a pine tree on its side, creating a design that is both substantial and full of atmosphere. It is said to produce a cooler sound than conventional iron wind chimes, using precious iron sand from Iwate.
The short, rectangular strips (tanzaku) are inscribed with a tanka (a 31-syllable Japanese poem) by the renowned poet Ishikawa Takuboku, who was from Iwate. This item is no longer commercially available. How about this elegant piece for enjoying the season, or as a gift for someone overseas?
