Rare Kobo Daishi 1100th Anniversary Grand Memorial Service (Showa 9/1934) "Kobo Daishi Miei" Buddhist Art Antique
72.60 $
Description
This is an official Kobo Daishi Mikage (portrait of Kobo Daishi) produced in commemoration of the Great Dharma Service for the 1100th Anniversary of Kobo Daishi's Passing, held at Kongobu-ji Temple on Mount Koya (Shingon sect) in Showa 9 (1934).
Dimensions: Approximately 96.5 cm (height) x 37.8 cm (width).
Made of paper.
It appears to have been produced with the intention of being mounted on a scroll, as the image of the Great Master is depicted in the lower portion.
There are stains throughout (please refer to the example images provided), but the image of the Great Master is in good condition. Considering it is a pre-war item, the condition is relatively good.
The last image shows a paper slip detailing the history of this Mikage's production, which was attached to a previously sold item with the same design. This slip is not included in the current listing but is shown here to attest to its provenance.
The outer paper box has also deteriorated due to age, with damage such as dirt, insect damage, and deformation.
