Kiriko Lantern, Kiriko Toro, Jodo Shinshu Otani-ha (Higashi Hongan-ji School) Use
This is a Kirikago Torō (lantern) from Kobori, a Kyoto Buddhist fittings manufacturer.
It incorporates the superb craftsmanship of Kyoto artisans, with the wave carving on the upper part of the firebox, made from a single piece of wood, being particularly intricate.
The frame is finished with genuine lacquer and layered with washi paper in white, red, and navy blue. It is extremely durable and very expensive.
This is the formal appearance of a Bon Torō (lantern for Obon) for the Otani school of Shin Buddhism (Higashi).
Kiriko Torō (cut-glass lantern)
Used twice, for the first Obon and the following year. It has been used and stored with care.
