Description
【Lanterns】 Fabric lanterns are an indispensable decoration for traditional Japanese festivals, not only adding to the festive atmosphere but also expressing the meaning and rituals of each festival.
【Summer Festivals】 The appearance of white lanterns varies depending on customs and the meaning of the festival. The original purpose of the Nebuta Matsuri (a type of summer festival featuring竿灯祭) was to ward off summer illnesses and evil spirits. It later evolved into a festival praying for a bountiful harvest.
【Obon Festival】 is one of Japan's grand traditional events, also known as Manto-e or Tamatsuri. It is a form of respect and offering to ancestors. In some places, grand celebrations and parades are held with lanterns displayed.
【New Year Decorations】 Lanterns are not just lighting fixtures but also symbols of poetic culture. Red lanterns, in particular, represent celebration and blessings, health, and good fortune. White lanterns are often associated with mourning and remembering the past.
【Izakaya Decorations】 Japanese izakayas (pubs) often display red or white lanterns, and sometimes the owners will doodle on them. This is one of Japan's traditional customs and cultural practices.
