Buddhist Tablet (Ihai) - Purple Sandalwood High-Quality Cat-Ear Style, 4.0 inches - Free Handwritten Inscription - For Buddhist Altars
Height: 21 cm, Width: 10 cm

A Buddhist tablet (Ihai) is a Buddhist implement used to enshrine and honor the spirits of the deceased. It is considered an important object for ancestral veneration.
The Buddhist name (Kaimyo) is inscribed on the front of the tablet.
Even without a Buddhist name, you can create a suitable tablet using the deceased's secular name (Zokumyo) by adding 之霊位 (no reii) after it. Adding 之霊位 after the secular name is considered to have the same meaning as receiving a Buddhist name.

If you wish to have the Buddhist name or other inscriptions handwritten, we will do so with care and free of charge, rather than using a machine. Please refer to the last image for examples.
After winning the auction, please provide the Buddhist name you wish to have handwritten, the posthumous title (e.g., Koji for men, Daishi for women), the date of death, the secular name (full name), and the age at death. We will then inscribe it by hand for free. Of course, you are also welcome to purchase the tablet without inscription.

We will also handwrite the date of death, secular name (full name), and age at death for free.

In the Kanto region, the Buddhist name and date of death are inscribed on the front of the tablet, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back.

In the Tokai and western Japan regions, only the Buddhist name is inscribed on the front, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back.

There are regional differences. If you already have ancestral tablets, we can create the new one to match their layout.
About this Buddhist Tablet:
★ This Buddhist tablet is made from Purple Sandalwood (Shitan), one of the highest-grade woods.
Purple sandalwood is a wood produced in East Asia and is not found in Japan. It is one of the world's three major types of exotic hardwoods and is very expensive, having been used as a high-quality wood since ancient times.
Buddhist tablets made from purple sandalwood and ebony are considered high-grade tablets.
This deep wine-colored, high-quality wood is most commonly seen in the exotic hardwood crafts found in the Shosoin Imperial Repository and has been treasured as a top-quality material since ancient times.
Its gentle wine color complements Buddhist altars, making it popular among women.
Purple sandalwood is considered a popular wood for Buddhist tablets, especially for women. The popularity of purple sandalwood for women's tablets is also a contributing factor.
