This is Nagasaki-produced gumwood, a single piece with the core intact. Gumwood is known for its flexibility, strength, and ability to dampen vibrations, making it an excellent material for hammer handles.
Unlike handles made from milled lumber of large trees such as oak, ebony, or cherry, or those made of iron, single-piece core-intact gumwood handles are tough, resilient, and highly flexible, reducing shock to the hands and arms and lessening fatigue.
Natural gumwood logs are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
We carefully select pieces with few knots, so please take this opportunity to try them.
Tsubaki oil is applied to prevent cracking due to drying.
