Released in 1956, this is a rare late-model Summicron, representing only about 20% of the total production. The late model features a larger filter diameter, allowing the use of the common E39 filter size for Leica lenses. This expands the options for filters and hoods, which are important for wide-angle lenses. While it became slightly larger as a result, it remains classified as a compact lens. It's a classic 35mm wide-angle lens with the characteristic charm of an old lens, offering sharp resolution concentrated in the center and a pleasing glow around light sources.

I took it out for a holiday outing.

At the aquarium, 50mm is too long, and a 35mm lens is much easier to handle. Using a 4.3mm extension adapter, I could focus just at the edge of the tank. The focus is slightly soft towards the edges and sharp in the center. I used this characteristic to photograph jellyfish, capturing their ethereal movement with sharp detail.

In bright conditions, stopping down for deep focus reveals remarkable resolution. The fine wires of the Ferris wheel are rendered with crispness, demonstrating its excellent image quality. Conversely, in low light conditions shot wide open, light sources exhibit a soft glow, another hallmark of an old lens.

Regarding its condition, while barely noticeable in normal light, there are small remaining specks of dirt that could not be removed even after cleaning. This may contribute to the slight glow around light sources, but it's not a general haze, and the image rendering is good as shown in the test shots. The exterior has minor scuffs but is otherwise beautiful. The operation is smooth. While not in pristine condition, it's a lens that can be used stylishly and practically.
