Possibly from the Taisho era? Vintage baseball glove, catcher's mitt
This is a set of 3 old baseball gloves and catcher's mitts.
They are in very poor condition, tattered and worn. They are, of course, unusable for official games.
Based on their shape, they are likely from around the 1920s to 1930s, the Taisho to early Showa periods. How about them as historical materials?
Although difficult to see, there are name inscriptions.
Upon deciphering the barely visible names, it was found that one of the three was likely used by a member of a certain prestigious school's baseball team, which boasts over 100 years of history. (Perhaps the other two as well...) The name of the school, renowned for its academic and athletic excellence in the region, and the user's full name were inscribed. Given the era, it wouldn't be strange if these were used by founding members, making them quite interesting historical artifacts.
It's amazing that something like this has survived...
When I think they might have been discarded if they hadn't come into my possession, I feel grateful they did.
I understand my role in this history is to pass them on to someone who truly understands and can utilize their value.
