This is an Edo Wasan (traditional Japanese fishing rod) by Somasu, a Tanago rod. It is a 2-piece jointed rod, 42cm in length, with a collapsed length of approximately 23cm. It comes with a rod case and a rod bag. The rod bag is also handmade by Somasu.
The finish is Aosa (blue sand) lacquer. The brand mark is a circle with masu inside. The rod bag is inscribed with the brand mark (circle with masu), Tanago rod, and Shijuuni (forty-two), indicating the length.
The handle is elaborately crafted from Yagake (arrow bamboo). The tip is a Keri-ppo (carved tip) made of Madake (true bamboo), covered in Aosa lacquer with fine fukurin (rims).
