On June 5, Reiwa 6 (2024), the 70th Tokyo Derby (3-year-olds, JpnI, 2000m dirt, 1st prize money 100 million yen) was held at Ooi Racecourse. Lamjet (colt, 3 years old, trained by Shozo Sasaki at Ritto), the 1st favorite ridden by Kosei Miura, broke from a good position, extended his stride in the stretch, and pulled away to win by 6 lengths over Satono Epic (colt, 3 years old, trained by Sakae Kunieda at Miho), the 2nd favorite, who also extended his stride from second place. The winning time was 2 minutes 06.1 seconds (on a slightly heavy track).
Ammosiera (filly, 3 years old, trained by Mikio Matsunaga at Ritto), the 3rd favorite, finished another 2 lengths behind in third place.
The winner, Lamjet, has the bloodline of Majestic Warrior (sire), Nefertiti (dam), and Gold Allure (dam's sire). While he usually achieves results by coming from behind in the final stretch, this time he raced in a forward position and won decisively with an early pace. This marks his 4th consecutive victory and his second graded stakes win, following his previous race.
