There's a story set in a British magic school that predates Harry Potter by a long shot. It's Jill Murphy's The Worst Witch series, which we know well as Mildred's Witch School.

It's said that J.K. Rowling herself drew a lot of inspiration from this work, and seeing Mildred, the witch who wears a pointed hat and flies on a broomstick, causing chaotic accidents at school, might remind you of Harry Potter.

In any case, while it doesn't have the grand epic scale of Harry Potter, it's full of imaginative and fun stories that children will surely enjoy.

The series has been adapted into TV movies and is now a TV drama airing on Netflix, so it's so famous that it probably doesn't need an introduction.
