Description
Geta-saku, 1970, Takano Mon-dake Bamboo, Yoshikiri Yu-bae, Glitter Togidashi Kuchimaki, 3 Sections, 91 Sun, Glitter Togidashi Urushi Grip

This is a rare fishing rod made in 1990 by the second generation Geta-saku, Hiroshi Ishii. It has been unused since purchase and is in beautiful condition.

This rod is a magnificent piece, crafted from Takano Mon-dake bamboo. The grip and the decorative winding (kuchimaki) are finished with a glitter-infused Togidashi lacquer.

Its slender profile allows you to enjoy the Sekirei (wagtail) action, reminiscent of the famous master Kokyu.

The second generation Geta-saku (Hiroshi Ishii) is the son of the first generation Geta-saku (Yoshio Ishii).

The first generation Geta-saku was a direct disciple of Master Mitsuo Kojima, and also a direct disciple of the late master Kokyu, inheriting his techniques.
The second generation Geta-saku (Hiroshi Ishii) also studied under Kokyu and crafts rods in the Kokyu style.

Both the first and second generation Geta-saku (Yoshio Ishii and Hiroshi Ishii) have passed away.

As the rod has been unused since purchase and is in mint condition, there are no deformations or cracks at the ferrule (tamaguchi) or winding (kuchimaki).
The rod has minimal bending, well within the natural characteristics of bamboo.
This is, of course, a Kishu hera-nbo (a type of fishing rod from the Kishu region).

This rod is finished with genuine lacquer.

While in the Kokyu style, the ratio of the tip section to the middle section is the same as that of Kokyu's three-section rods, as can be seen in the overall photos.

Unusually, this rod does not have the Geta-saku brand mark, but the Geta-saku brand is焼印 (yaki-in - branded) on the middle section.

It is in excellent condition for a rod from the Showa era.

In my opinion, the craftsmanship resembles that of the late master Kokyu's rods. The rod's action is the Sekirei (wagtail) style.
