Highlights
Eight emerging architects have created brand-new works for this exhibition! A dynamic, experiential exhibition.
The venue will feature a approximately 12-meter-diameter model, as well as exhibits that allow visitors to enter and experience the space, and others that can be directly touched. Through models of various scales and formats, including videos and spatial installations, visitors can spatially and physically experience the architects' thought processes.
The Possibilities of Models
WHAT MUSEUM's Architecture Museum has, to date, introduced specialized architectural thinking in an open manner through architectural models. This exhibition focuses on the expanded aspects of models, viewing them not merely as scaled-down representations but as media that carry fragments of concepts and thoughts. Eight architects, primarily those who began their activities after 2010, will present their architectural thinking itself through models, videos, and spatial compositions created for this exhibition.
With the advancement of information technology, societal changes are accelerating, and architecture is being called upon to respond and update in shorter cycles. On the other hand, this exhibition reconfirms the perspective of conceptualizing relationships with the environment and society over long periods, and provides an opportunity to re-examine the scope of architectural thinking. The title Corrugated Sheets and Coral Reefs is an indirect metaphor for a state where different times, scales, and speeds of generation overlap and coexist.
We hope that through the endeavors of these architects, visitors will have the opportunity to view the world from a different perspective, by setting aside the immediate reality and drawing the distant future closer to hand for contemplation.
