Miyako Woodcraft Mammoth Ivory Highest Quality Karatui for Okinawa Sanshin
This is the highest grade karakui, only found on Sanshin instruments priced at 400,000 yen or more from Miyako Mokugei, a leading name in the Sanshin industry. Incidentally, these are not generally available for sale, so don't miss this opportunity.
Size:
Total length: 115mm
Handle: 72mm
Maximum width: 22mm
The material is mammoth ivory, with a clean impression due to the absence of red coral beads on the tips. Compared to regular karakui, these are slightly larger, offering a superb, glove-like grip and ease of turning. New ones cost 70,000 yen each, but we are offering these at a lower price due to a chip on the tip of the shaft and some sun fading overall. Of course, they can be used without issue after proper adjustment.
We believe these would be a perfect match for the aesthetic of Sanshin instruments made with authentic materials like Yaeyama black wood or Honjima black wood, especially those with a large Oomakabe (wide inner wall) and thicker necks, crafted by Yonashiro or Chinen artisans. As these are extremely rare, please refrain from price negotiations.
Notes: There may be minor scratches that have been overlooked, so please examine the photos carefully before considering. Those seeking shop-level quality or who are particularly sensitive should refrain from purchasing.
