These bearings rotate most smoothly when used dry. However, when installed in the spool system of a baitcasting reel, they may produce a high-pitched shhh sound during casting due to friction.
If this noise bothers you, please apply a small amount of oil. (It should help to quiet them down a bit.)

*However, as these are full ceramic bearings (with PTFE for the ball retainer parts), they are unlikely to seize up like metal cage and metal ball bearings, even when used dry, within the typical rotation range of a baitcasting reel spool.
In other words, they are ideal maintenance-free bearings that do not rust (even when used in saltwater) and do not require lubrication (at present).
Since they are non-magnetic, they can be easily installed near brake magnets.
