While I cannot guarantee it, I believe it can accommodate a diameter of 5cm with room to spare, and a length of up to 54cm.

Shakuhachi are often around 54cm in length and 5cm in diameter, but I'm not sure.
I do not own a shakuhachi myself, so I cannot answer questions about whether it will fit.

The gusset at the top and bottom will be affected by the diameter of the shakuhachi.
Even if the overall length of the item is long, if it has a large diameter, the gussets will take up space, and many items will not fit.
For an idea of the diameter, I've included a photo with an unopened mini juice can (approx. 5.2cm) for reference.
