The length and thickness that fit in each shakuhachi bag vary from piece to piece.
Length: Approx. 72cm
(Length when not folded)
Width: Approx. 10.5cm
While I cannot take responsibility, I believe this can comfortably fit a diameter of 5cm and a length of up to 55cm.
Many shakuhachi are around 54cm in length and 5cm in diameter, but I'm not sure.
Of course, I do not own a shakuhachi, so I cannot answer questions about whether it will fit.
The gusset at the top and bottom will be adjusted based on the diameter of the shakuhachi.
Even if the total length of the item is long, if it has a diameter and thickness, the top and bottom gussets will be created, and many items will not fit.
For an idea of the thickness, I have included a photo with an unopened mini juice can of approximately 5.2cm.
