First Kitahara Kōzan was the first disciple of First Nakao Tozan, which explains his passion for shakuhachi making.
Yukiware (snow crack):
This is a pattern formed when the bamboo root cracks due to the cold of the snow, and then naturally heals. It is made from hard bamboo and the crack remains even after 100 years.
Yukiware is a rare and beautiful bamboo material that is also highly valued in high-end tea ceremony utensils.
The mouthpiece and the joint are believed to be tortoiseshell, with silver three-line inlays.
