This is a simple pencil bait designed with a focus on long casting distance, based on the motif of the Hasu (Ketabasu) that inhabits the Biwako water system.
The size was decided to be 92mm and 13g, balancing long casting distance and action.

The characteristic he (へ) shaped mouth, which realistically reproduces the Hasu, is designed as a cup shape and has internal molding to create turbulent water flow.

By making the side edges as thin as possible, they act as keels that cut through the water and cause the entire body to slide.
This keel draws in plenty of water and generates splashes (bubbles), expressing the water flow left behind by fleeing fish targeted by bass.

The concept is that the sharpness of the action comes from the shape and weight balance, not the specific gravity of the body. To create sharp turns and strong water push, the body shape is formed with a three-dimensional curve, featuring tall sides and a narrow width, tapering significantly towards the tail.
The turning moment generated by the cup causes the body to slide while cutting through the water, and the nearly flat sides powerfully push the water.

The posture on the water surface is set at approximately 85°, close to vertical. This posture allows for the characteristic diving action of the Hasu Pen to be performed effectively, even in rivers where it won't be defeated by the current.

The underwater dog walk action, achieved by finely manipulating the rod tip after diving from the surface, is one of the Hasu Pen's most proficient performances. However, with long slow jerks, it can dart irregularly left and right, expressing the appearance of a small fish fleeing in panic.
Additionally, with a steady retrieve, it continuously appeals with a subtle rolling action and flashing.
