Description
This instrument is made to the same specifications as the Shishida and Maruyama shinobue.

This instrument produces good sound, especially in the higher registers.

As natural materials are used and it is handmade, there may be natural variations in shape, pattern, curvature, and minor scratches.

The volume (which can be quite piercing) and tone quality are superior to a standard shinobue.

I have been researching physics for a long time and have succeeded in selecting materials that are easy to play and produce a resonant sound.

I discovered that only bamboo that meets certain conditions will produce sound from the tube itself.

Thickness: Approximately 20.5 mm near the mouthpiece.

Length: Approximately 48.6 cm.

Mouthpiece size: Approximately 15 mm.

Bamboo hardness: Medium.

Thickness: Slightly thin.

Pitch: Approximately just under a D5 to D5.

Range: It plays cleanly from the lowest note to the 5th octave high note.

This instrument is made based on the standard fingering and notation for general shinobue. Please note that fingering may vary by region, especially for special fingerings or higher octave notes. We recommend confirming via comment.

What is a Wafū (Japanese Flute)?
Wafū are transverse flutes that have been made by flute makers in Kyoto since the Heian period and passed down throughout the country.
The hayashi (festival music) and satokagura (Shinto shrine music), which are designated as intangible cultural assets, are the original forms of wafū (bamboo flutes). (They are Japanese indigenous transverse flutes.)
Characteristics:
They are characterized by having nodes, typically made from madake (giant timber bamboo) or awadake (hachiku). They are also called takebue (bamboo flutes).
They reached their peak from the mid-Edo period to the Meiji period and spread throughout the country, being used in local hayashi and satokagura.
However, they declined from the late Meiji period into the Showa period. Around this time, the Shishida brand shinobue became widespread throughout the country, and it seems that the difficult-to-play and expensive wafū lost out to the shinobue.

The origin of wafū (takebue) is in Kyoto, and the origin of shinobue is in Tokyo. (Kyoto's takebue, Edo's shinobue) (Dragon's takebue, Lion's shinobue)

There appear to be only a few wafū craftsmen remaining nationwide. (As they are extremely difficult to make, very few can play and craft them.)
They seem to be quite expensive (around 50,000 yen).
We strive to make wafū that are as easy to play and resonant as possible, at an affordable price.
Please note that price reductions are not possible.
